Franklin P. Rice, 1892
(1852 – 1919)
Franklin P. Rice was an independent publisher and author. Besides writing Portraits and Sketches of the Presidents of the United States from Washington to Arthur (1882) he also wrote and published many other books, e.g. A Summary Military History of Worcester (Massachusetts, 1895) and many Vital Records listing the births, marriages, and deaths in towns in Massachusetts.
Henry W. Rugg
(1833 – 1910)
Henry W. Rugg was a clergyman with a Doctor of Divinity degree, editor, and author. He served as a member and secretary of the Board of Trustees of Tufts College in Medford, Massachusetts, as well as taught there as a “non-resident lecturer” in its Divinity School (e.g., in 1901). He was a Freemason Grand Chaplain and was a member of the Freemason’s Foreign Correspondence Committee, as well as the editor of the Freemasons’ Repository, published monthly for Masons and their families. Besides writing The Presidents of the United States (1888), he also wrote such books as The Church (1891), part of a series of Manuals of Faith and Duty published by the Universalist Church. As “historian of the Grand lodge” he wrote the History of Freemasonry in Rhode Island in 1895.
