Daniel Winstead

Photos of Daniel and his Dad on the 2007 expedition to Utah to look for trilobite fossils.

This photo slide show shows just 11 photos of Daniel and his Dad - but does not show any trilobites. We found many trilobites! They were right where IUP professor Dr. John Taylor told us we would find them about 52 miles west of Delta, Utah. (There were many homemade warning signs that the direction we were traveling had no gas stations for very long distances.) We felt a little guilty moving the trilobites from where they had lain for more than 500 million years. (Did you know that even in 2007 that shipping rocks as mementos back to Pennsylvania was expensive!) The sand that Daniel jumped down and into (see the photos) on the way to the trilobite area was the finest (smallest size) we had ever seen or felt; it ran off of you like water, and this sensation felt really weird for sand.
