Celebrating
E. D. Winstead's
96th Birthday!

E. D. Winstead as a graduating senior in 1930 from Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson, NC.

Note the name of Rev. John Barclay on the 1930 graduation program.  This is the same Rev. John Barclay who officiated at E. D. Winstead's wedding to Josephine Minshew in 1938 at the First Christian Church in Wilson, NC.  Also note in the graduation program that Rev. Barclay was presenting the Albert Oettinger Memorial Medal.  From 1967 to 1996 E. D. Winstead lived with his wife (and his children until they left home) in the former residence of Albert Oettinger on Broad Street in Wilson, NC.  They then moved to Durham, NC.

Rev. John Barclay moved from Wilson, NC to Austin, Texas and became the pastor of the Central Christian Church of Austin, Texas.  Future President Lyndon B. Johnson was a member of the church, and they became personal friends.  Rev. Barclay gave one of the prayers at the inauguration for President John F. Kennedy and Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson on January 20, 1961.
