Dear Superintendent Lee Estock,
I am a member of the local Indiana Area Pickleball Club, and I am exploring the idea of the club sponsoring the introduction of the game of pickleball as a recreational activity for the inmates at SCI Pine Grove. About seven years ago I played in a church jazz ensemble that played for the inmates there at SCI Pine Grove in a gymnasium area with bleachers that I think would provide enough space for at least one pickleball court – and probably more than one. The USA Pickleball Association provides the information for the dimensions of the court: https://www.usapa.org/court-diagram/
The club has three used, portable nets, and other supplies, that we could loan to you to try out the game. As is commonly done during the introduction of pickleball in other areas, we would lay down some temporary, easily removable “painter’s tape” to outline the court on the floor. (The club currently plays on a regular basis at the Indiana YMCA.) Members of the club would also be willing to sponsor some training sessions for inmates.
Basically, all of the club members are retired. For example, I am a retired professor from IUP.
